Obituary for O.C. Parker, Jr.

Cherryville - Mr. O.C. Parker, Jr., 91, passed away on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at Hospice at Wendover in Shelby.

O.C. was born in Cornelia, GA on June 7, 1931 a son of the late Martha Traber Parker. He retired after 44 1/2 years of service at Carolina Freight Carriers Corporation in Cherryville working on the dock and as a local driver. O.C. was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Cherryville where he served as a former deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was a member of Cherryville Masonic Lodge #505 A.F. & A.M. for over 60 years and a member of Oasis Shriners. O.C. was also an avid golfer and enjoyed telling jokes.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Alda Beam and Mildred Parker and two brothers, Thomas and Dan Parker.

Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Deane Sneed Parker of the home; a daughter, Cathy Parker Safley of Lincolnton; a son, G. Clifton Parker and wife Kim; granddaughter, Natalie Becknell and husband Jared; two great grandchildren, Parker and Reese Becknell all of Lexington, SC and a sister, Sarah Sigmon of Cherryville; two half brothers, John Wall of Atlanta, GA and William Bishop of Macon, GA. Also surviving are a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 11:00AM to 12:45PM on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at First Baptist Church and at other times the family will be at the home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Vince Hefner officiating.

Burial will follow the service at City Memorial Cemetery in Cherryville with Masonic Rites.
