Obituary for Joe Alexander

Cherryville - Mr. Joe Dean Alexander, 84, met his Savior face to face on Monday, February 27, 2023 at Atrium Health - Cleveland in Shelby.

Joe was born in Cleveland County, NC on May 7, 1938 a son of the late Everette G. Alexander and Sibbie Frances Self Alexander. He was retired after 39 years of service from Carolina Freight Carriers Corporation in Cherryville and after his retirement drove a school bus for Gaston County Schools for several years. Joe was a very active and dedicated member of First Baptist Church. He served the church in many capacities over the years, including, serving as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, Sunday school director, RA Leader, choir member, handy man ministry and went on several mission trips. Joe also had a ministry at the Detention Center in Dallas for several years. He was active with the Carolina Care Singers, enjoyed camping trips and he and his wife Rachel delivered meals on wheels to senior adults in the community.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Joe David Alexander.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Rachel Greene Alexander of the home; a daughter, Mary Ann Capps and husband Mark of Kings Mountain; a son Donald Alexander and wife, Kim; a sister, Frances Grigg all of Cherryville; four grandchildren, Bryce Alexander (Natasha), Emily Vaughn, Brock Alexander (Meredith) and Matthew Drake; four great grandchildren, Sierra Alexander, Bryer and Bruin Alexander and Camden Vaughn.

The family will receive friends from 2:30PM to 3:45PM on Thursday, March 2, 2023 at First Baptist Church in Cherryville.

A funeral service will be held at 4:00PM on Thursday, March 2, 2023 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Vince Hefner officiating.

A private family burial will be held at City Memorial Cemetery in Cherryville.
