Obituary for James Maxey

Cherryville - Mr. James Ross Maxey, 83, passed away on Thursday, November 3, 2022.

James was born on January 7, 1939 in Oconee, SC to Dewitt Clint Maxey and Julia Ellis Maxey. He was retired from the U.S. Navy after twenty years of service. After retiring from the Navy he purchased Park Square Cleaners in Charlotte, NC where he met his wife, Bertha. After moving to Cherryville he owned several rental properties and worked for the U.S. Postal Service. He and Bertha also owned and operated Maxey Travel Services, Inc. He enjoyed working with his dad's cattle, having a vegetable garden and beautiful flowers and plants at his home.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, John Golden Maxey; two brothers, Clint and Allen Maxey; a sister, Lucille Maxey Perry and a son-in-law, Brian Butterfuss.

Survivors include his wife of forty-one years, Bertha Peeler Maxey of the home; children, Jennings Maxey and wife Ella of Spring Hill, FL; Suzanne Maxey Butterfuss of Tomah, WI; David Maxey and wife Nicole of Sheridan, WY; and Holly Maxey Bell and husband Donnie of Cherryville; ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He is also survived by a very special niece, Virginia "Jenny" Maxey Murphy.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
