Obituary for Derek B. Smith, Jr.
Kings Mountain - Mr. Derek B. Smith, Jr., 51, passed away on November 25, 2021 at his residence.
Derek was born on March 27, 1970 in Cleveland County, NC a son of Jane Clemmer Smith of Cherryville and the late Derek B. Smith, Sr. He was employed as a maintenance coordinator for Hospice of Cleveland County. Derek was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church and the Pathfinders Sunday school class and also enjoyed being able to go on a mission trip with the church to West Virginia.
In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife of 11 years, Melanie Halk Smith of the home; a sister, Tracy Overby and husband Mark of Benson; two nephews Ryan Overby (Brittany) and Collin Overby and also a great nephew, Carson Overby.
Visitation will be on Sunday, December 5, 2021 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Shady Grove Baptist Church.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 5, 2021 at 3:00PM Shady Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Dale Hendricks and Rev. Zac Mayhue officiating.
Burial will be private.
