Obituary for Buddy Smith
Cherryville - Mr. Buddy Ray Smith, 65, passed away on Thursday, July 8, 2021 at his residence.
Buddy was born in Gaston County, NC on September 11, 1955 a son of the late Thomas Andrew Smith and Ellie Mae Maxwell Smith. He worked as a welder and fabricator. Buddy drove the #8 and 08 car and had over 500 featured wins. He was inducted into the Dirt Track Racing Hall of Fame. Buddy had a passion for the Shriners Hospitals for Children and raced at Carolina Speedway in the Shrine 100 race.
Survivors include his daughter, Heather Smith Ford of Alexis; one grandson and two sisters, Mary Ledbetter of Dallas and Diann Summey of Alexis.
A celebration of life service will be announced at a later date.
